TREVI FOUNTAIN

March 28, 2022

The Trevi Fountain is considered the most famous fountain in the world. Okay I'm not sure about that, but google says it, so it must be right? Of course we needed to visit it. Its free and a famous site, so why not? I love free! Since we stayed at the Pantheon Hotel, it was a short 5-7 minute walk to the Trevi Fountain.

When we got there it wasn't flowing. Initially, we were disappointed. A cleaning crew was doing their job. Did you know that tourist deposit over 1.3 million euros in the fountain every year? The money collected from the fountain goes to the needy.

The place was a bit busy. The fountain was semi crowded with 10 rows deep of tourist. I found it strange because it was just the start of peak season. Imagine how busy it would be at Easter?

Wanting to see the fountain flowing, we ate at an overprice restaurant nearby to pass the time.

As I looked at the menu, this restaurant was really overpriced, 8 euro for a cappuccino. You know I bought it and was extremally disappointed. The cappuccino's in Italy are lukewarm at best, but do as the Romans do even though its not what I wanted.

We paid 50 euros for a sandwich, a crepe and two drinks. Our waiter was asking for a 20% tip. I laughed it off. Just then we heard the fountain running so we got up and left.

As we got there we seen that access to the base of the fountain was available, so we meandered our way down and found a spot to take a facemous youtube video.

A bit of info. The main statue of the fountain is the Roman god Oceanus. The word word trevie means three roads in Italian. There are three roads that lead to the fountain and people in ancient times used it as a water source.

Later that evening on the way back to our hotel, we got off at the Trevi Fountain bus stop and saw it at night.
