Checkpoint Charlie

I didn't really know anything about the cold war, but I heard of Checkpoint Charlie. What was its purpose? I don't know. I decided to find out the purpose of Checkpoint Charlie.

This by far was the most interesting part of Berlin. After watching a video, Checkpoint Charlie was a border crossing between East and West Berlin. The Allies controlled West Berlin and the East was controlled by the Soviets. According to the pact between the Allies and the Soviets, personnel on both sides could go freely between East and West via this Checkpoint Charlie. There was also two other checkpoints, alpha and bravo.

At Checkpoint Charlie there were a number of souvenir shops and you could actually buy a piece of the Berlin Wall. The cost is a bit pricey, but holding a piece of history is still amazing.
