The Capitol

Our Nation’s Capitol Building! This building is one of the symbols of America. It is where our government body has met for 2 centuries to make important decisions about our country. It would be assumed that if one came to Washington D.C., it is a must to come here. I guess you can do a self-guided tour, but Michelle one of our head chaperones booked in advanced, well in advance to get the guided-tour.

We waited in the lobby for our tour guide. In the lobby are these statues. Each state is supposed to submit a statue for this lobby. Guess who Hawaii submitted? King Kamehameha! Wasn’t there any doubt! What if they submitted Captain Cook? Nah nah, I dare not to go there. The Kamehameha statue is an exact replica as the King Street Statue.

The most interesting part of the tour was the rotunda. This is the center of the Capitol and where the dome is. The artwork in this room is amazing! Pictures I took don’t do it justice, a video would be great. A lot of the paintings were of important American events like the Declaration of Independence, The Pilgrims, Columbus, DeSoto, etc. On the ceiling is a fresco of GW. I can’t remember exactly what he was doing, I think the painting is him in some clouds.
