Applefest

September 21, 2019

Sweet crunchy apples! One of the best tasting fruits on earth. Its no wonder why the apple is regarded in some versions of the bible as the tree of immortality.

The festival was located in Mainz about 50 minutes from our home in Otterberg. Before we got to the exit, there was major traffic, what Germans call a stau (traffic jam).

When we got there, parking was initially hard to find, but we ended up parking in some industrial area like everyone else. That is what kinda happens in Germany since many businesses are closed on the weekend, they use other parking areas.

The farm wasn't as big as I thought, in my mind I imagined acres or as people in Europe refer to hectares of apple trees, but it wasn't much. At the main room, we had to register and there was a display with all the different apple trees on the farm. I'd say there were about 12 different varieties. You could cut a slice and taste the apple.

The sun was shining today. We have to take advantage of the sun because there are going to be months were we don't see it at all. I'm not looking forward to that at all, but it will be interesting to go through.

We went down each row and picked apples. It is a great memory. We even ate an apple off the tree. The taste of a juicy apple is unmatched.

After picking apples we wanted to eat. However, there weren't many food stands. The only good food was the bratwurst. It was okay. They also had apfelwein or apple wine. It taste like a Riesling. For only 2 Euros, it was well worth it.

With two teenage kids, its not always the greatest time as they get on our nerves and on each others nerves. Hopefully they remember this in a positive light. As for Michelle and I we are living our European experience.
