Gold & Silver Pawn Shop
Gold & Silver Pawn Shop
We joked about going here. We're not as interested in the show as before. But it is still a popular attraction in Vegas. Last time we went to Vegas in 2009, not very many people heard about Pawn Stars as the show was starting its first season. The show became a hit on the History Channel and the cast of characters all became famous.
This jist of the show is a person brings in something of value, the pawn shop guy checks it out and calls an 'expert' to come check it. The expert comes on later in the show, analyzes the item and gives a value. Then the negotiating begins. Rick is probably the main star of the show, he is good at negotiating. He is straight forward with his approach and doesn't bull shit around. I think that is why people are into it because of his personaility.
The Pawn Shop is off the Vegas Strip in Downtown Vegas. We’ve read reviews that the area surrounding the Pawn Shop was sketchy, but it’s not. We caught the Deuce early in the morning around 10 am and headed northbound. We got off at the bus stop before the Freemont Street Experience and walked about a quarter mile to the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop.
It is very touristy, but when you walk inside, it actually looks like a Big Pawn Shop. What separates this pawn shop from the others is the high end items. What intrigued me was the PIcasso and Salvador Dali paintings. That was unexpected and very impressive. Also, the display of Super Bowl rings and sports championship rings were also impressive. There were other stuff as well. The place is kind of a spectacle because I think people go there for the tourist part and to buy something to say they bought something from the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop. None of the stars from the show were there. They do however have a lot of people working there.
I would imagine they make a killing on all the memorabilia they sell. They sell a lot of different types of shirts and souvenirs. It was a good experience. Now, off to the Freemont Street Experience.
