With Germany lifting some of the restrictions from the Coronavirus, we chose to go on a drive on the Fairy Tale Road northeast of Frankfurt.
Germany's Fairy Tale Road is over 600 km long and follows the legend of The Brother's Grimm who as children and adults lived within the State of Hesse and were inspired by their environment and everyday interactions in the German Villages.
Their Fairy Tales included Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Snow White, and Hansel & Gretel. Many of the German Towns inspired the Grimm Brothers to write their stories. As a kid, you heard of these stories and watched the Disney Movies. It brings back a childhood memory in all of us.
Michelle and I both worked half day on Friday and went home to pack. We left the house at 1:30pm. I've mentioned before that the autobahn is one of the best network of highways in the world. With that being said, when there's road construction and an accident it creates what German's call a stau (traffic jam). But their traffic jams are out of this world. It creates hours and hours of traffic.
The drive from our house in Otterberg to Trendelburg was suppose to take 3.5 hours. However with the construction and accidents, it took us 5.5 hours. We started our drive at 1:30pm and got to the hotel at 7:00pm. I was worried because the hotel said they only reserve the rooms until 6:00pm, however I don't think all the rooms were full since the Coronavirus has slowed down tourism. This put a wrench in our plans and we adjusted to plan B which was to stay on the castle grounds and hang out.
Quaint, Quiet, Charming, German
