Brandenburg Gate
September 2
The Brandenburg Gate is the starting point of the Berlin Marathon. The history goes way back to the 1700s where Prussian King Frederick William started construction. The Brandenburg Gate has been the epicenter of many historical events since it was built. From the Purssian Wars to World War II to The Cold War, it signifies Germany's ups and down throughout the last 300 years. Germany aspired to be a new Rome and the Brandenburg Gate was supposed to be the epicenter of it.
Also of note, when catching the subway as you exit the underground area, the Brandenburg Gate looms ahead, it was a sight to behold and I didn't take a picture of it which got me a bit disappointed.
About a kilometer from the Brandenburg Gate is the Victory Column. I took video of it during the marathon, but didn't take a picture of it.
The Brandenburg Gate symbolizes peace and tolerance. It was actually design to symbolize peace. But it has seen it share of war most notably the Nazi's and the Cold War.
