Lake Constance

May 29-31, 2020

Michelle and I wanted to get away for the weekend. We had our sites set on a day trip, but chose to do a weekend trip instead. I knew this was last minute and I hate doing things last minute, but we have to come to some type of medium when it comes to things like this. I knew it would cost way more money to do things last minute, but was willing to make the sacrifice because we needed it. I needed to get away and get my mind right.

We had a few places in mind like Bucharest, but the one that made the most sense was Lake Constance. I didn't even know this place existed until earlier this year when we it came up in our conversations.

Lake Constance borders 4 countries (3 as one of my youtube viewers pointed out to me); Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Lichtenstein. It is a huge lake and a top vacation spot for countries in the SE region of Europe.

One top tourist spot is the Flower Island known is Mainau Island. That would be one place we would go to. Another area we wanted to visit was the country of Lichtenstein. It is one of the smallest countries in the world and seemed interesting since we were in the area.

The main goal was to relax and recover. For me it would only be 1 1/2 weeks and the school year would be over.

We found a hotel in a city called Friedrichshafen, Germany which is located on Lake Constance.

When we got to Lake Constance we were surprised how busy it was. You needed a negative COVID test/vaccine to stay at a hotel and eat at a restaurant. The hotel we stayed at was Hotel City Krone a 4 star hotel in the middle of Friedrichshafen. Like most European hotel rooms a 4 star hotel is like a 3 star American Hotel. Nothing can beat American Hotels. After we unpacked everything, we went to the dock and walked around the lake.

When we got hungry we looked for a place to eat. We were a little confused when we stepped to the entrance. There were all of these signs in German and we tried our best to translate it. Do we need a negative COVID test or was our vaccine enough? We decided to just walk in. The guy did check our vaccine card and said we were good to go. We ate on the lake at a restaurant called Flanders. Both Michelle and I wanted the specialty which was the Bodensee Felchen Filet. The menu said it taste like trout or if you are from Hawaii saba. Its an oily healthy fish high in omega 3. The fish was okay, but the potatoes were top notch. The Germans know how to cook potatoes.

I was so full from our meal that I felt like throwing up. We walked it off, but saw the ice cream shop. We had the biggest ice cream. I was sick to my stomach. We staggered back to the hotel and I was so full. I knew I was going to regret this tomorrow. My goal was to run in the morning.

After decent sleep, I woke up. Michelle was probably mad at my snoring. But I was ready to go for a run. I ate my musli and drank my coffee. It was a chili high 40s, but I decided to go for it. The run on the boardwalk was amazing, something I can remember on future runs. The places I've run in my life have been so amazing. To think back, my runs in Texas, Pahoa, Honolulu, now here in Lake Cosntance Germany. How fortunate am I?

At about 10a, I woke up Michelle and we got ready to go to Mainau Island.
