Liechtenstein

After Mainau Island, Michelle drove us to Liechtenstein. We were faced with a dilemma. We could go through the Germany way or the Switzerland Way. The Germany way would be an extra hour of driving, the Switzerland way would be faster but we would have to buy a vignette. We chose the Switzerland way. The one mistake I made and if you ever travel to Europe this is a common mistake, but I assumed the vignette would cost the same as Austria. In Austria it cost $9. But in Switzerland they only sell yearly vignette (at least that is what the gas station attendant told us). The yearly vignette was €38 which if you do basic conversion it would cost $46. That is an expensive hour. You live and learn that not every country in Europe is the same.

I was dead tired at this point and even took a short nap. Michelle drove us through Switzerland. After about an hour and half of driving we entered the town of Vaduz. Unfortunately everything was closed except for a few restaurants. Nonetheless being in another country is always cool and it wasn't a total ghost town, there were at least one hundred people just hanging out.

In Liechtenstein they take the Swiss Franc, so we withdrew some money from an ATM. After going back and forth we found a place to eat. It was a little cafe, I couldn't remember the name. We ordered some french fries and I ordered a Liechtenstein beer. The beer was good, it taste like a hefeweizen.

Our waitress was really nice and spoke good English. From our table we saw the castle and pondered taking the 30 minute walk to the top, but we chose not to.

After some walking around we left and drove back to Friedrichshafen. It took less than an hour and included crossing the Austrian border which gave Michelle some anxiety, but we did okay.
