Hawaii Water Sports
Water Rides - March 21, 2015
We've been stagnant as a family recently. The kids rather just stay at home and do nothing. While Michelle and I can't decide on what to do. We get like this once in a while where we have our own agenda's and not on the same page.
Today Michelle wanted to go para-sailing, I agreed, but only if it was worth the money. We drove to Ala Moana near Kewalo Basin Park where they have all the tourist attractions lined up. We went to the para-sailing boat to see how much it would cost ~ it was $60 per person for only 10 minutes. That seemed a little too much. When that was out of the question, Michelle focused her attention on a dinner cruise, but that was too much money too.
We were a little frustrated, but did more brainstorming and came up with Koko Marina. We've been there many times and know that they have a bunch of water sports activities in the marina.
When we got there, we shopped around, but decided to go with Hawaii Water Sports. They seemed to be the best in the marina. They are actually the only one located in the arena. Almost, all the other water sport companies are located outside of the marina with the exception of Bob's Water Adventure who does a different type of water sport.
The deal for the day was $59 per person, Banana Boat and Bumper Ride. I thought that was a bit expensive, but after looking at all the prices, its the best deal. Total cost was $240, Kama'aina was $5 off per person, but with tax it came out to $240.
We had to wait 2 1/2 hours for our turn, so we went to Kona Brewing. We saw Darren & Bernice exiting while we were entering. They just did Koko Crater Rim. Kona Brewing for me is always fun, it is actually my favorite restaurant on the island. I always get the margharita pizza and Duke's blonde ale. After I drank a few beers, I felt ready to go.
It was our turn! We were paired up with another couple visiting from Los Angeles. The lady boat driver took us out about 1/4 mile from the dock and then we started. It was nuts! Your grip strength has to be pretty good. Although the kids didn't use too much grip strength, they seemed to not need it. Michelle and I were holding on for dear life. About 5 minutes in, the lady took a awkward turn throwing all of us off the banana boat. It felt like we were in the water forever, but it was only a few minutes. I tried to swim, but couldn't with the life jacket. We all floated back to the boat and started again. This time we switched seats. The lady from L.A. was having a hard time hanging on and she was screaming. Michelle and I laughed because we were having so much fun. The ride is only 20 minutes and they took us back to the dock where we would wait for the Bumper Ride to start.
We waited about 10 minutes while the guy was prepping. For this ride, you have to lay flat on your stomach and keep your head up. The guy started off slow. As we hit the ripples of the water, the Bumper Ride would jump up in the air. That was the only fun part of the ride. The guy took a sharp turn and I flew off the Bumper Ride. I tried to get back on myself, but was too weak. Michelle grabbed me up by my life vest and pulled me back on the Bumper Ride. This ride was only 15 minutes, but it was fun.
The guy took us back to shore where we washed off and went back inside the office to look at our pics. We found out that the Gopro from the Banana Boat Ride didn't work. We were disappointed, so was the couple from L.A. The pictures from the Bumper Ride came out and so we bought those for a whopping $40! These are memories that would last for a lifetime.
We decided to eat desserts at you guessed it, Kokonuts. Always a refreshing way to end the day. All together I shelled out big bucks for today, grand total was $363. But it was so worth it. Money is just a commodity, you make it and you lose it. That's okay because you can make it again.
