Skydiving - April 8, 2017
This was a bucket list item I was not intending on doing for a while. But Michelle seems to know what I want to do and this was one of them I made clear to her, so I guess she waited for the perfect time to sign me up.
Throughout the week, Michelle told me that we were going hiking on Saturday. I asked how long the hike was going to be because I needed to run the Hapalua on Sunday. She kept on saying we will be back in time.
At dinner on Friday, Michelle and the kids told me we were going skydiving. I was like woah. But thought it was fun. Michelle also told me that Aprille and Erik would be going too! Awesome!!!
I woke up with a hangover from the wine I drank last night. We got to Dillingham Airfield at 8:30am. We had to fill in a 5 page form to waive liability. Next, we had to get trained. My jump instructor Stephan gave me the instructions. He seemed a little uptight about it. Maybe something happened in the past and that is why he was so uptight. I bought the expensive package which afforded me a camera lady, her name was Linda.
Aprille was getting nervous, Erik excited. But since we had an early start, it was fast moving. After we got trained, we only had to wait 5 minutes in the holding area before we loaded the plan. I was in the back which meant I was jumping first. Holy Shit!
The plan ride was only 10 minutes, then it was time. You can't think at this point. If you do, you are going to hyperventilate. Best thing to do is stay calm which is hard to do.
Stephan strapped me in and he gave the countdown, then we jumped out of the plan. The disorientation was nuts at the initial free fall. Then the adrenaline kicked in as I fell towards earth. I was yelling excitement as I looked into the camera.
In about 20 seconds Stephan pulled the parachute. He held on to these two cords one on each side so he can control the direction. He then let me pull it. I was spinning crazy and getting dizzy. It was fun! That was it. I followed his final directions of keeping my legs in a perpendicular position and landed on my butt.
What a rush! I thanked Stephan and Linda for a great time. The longest part of the event was waiting for our video's to be uploaded and edited. The cost was $345, plus I left $45 tip, $22.50 for Stephen and Linda.
You can't beat the feeling, it is out of this world. Daniel was there waiting for us as we described the situation. We had a post skydiving meal at Papa Ole's
