Lake Forgensee
Lake Forgensee | September 7, 2020
Our last day in Bavaria took us to Lake Forgensee in the morning. Before we start see (zee) in German means lake. It is actually Lake Forgen in English terms. What makes it more complicated is that lake in German means meer, therefore I assume the German word see is a dialect of Bavaria or Austria. Who knows? I just assume a lot while I'm here. As time goes on, I will figure it out.
We woke up early because I think Jared wanted to go home and I wanted to pack much to the dismay of Michelle who wanted to sleep in another hour. She is loving her sleep. Michelle spends long hours in the bed just sleeping. I'm not sure what it is, if the cancer has anything to do with it or the toll the job is taking on her.
We ate a traditional German breakfast ~ some bread with jellies, cream cheese, or a spread, coffee or orange juice, an egg, muesli, sausage meat. The kids chose the egg and bread. I love my muesli and made a nice bowl. No one ate sausages.
After we checked out of the hotel, we said goodbye to the owners and drove to Lake Forgensee. While driving, I wanted to go to a konditorei (German pastry shop) and get some Black Forest Cake. I went in by myself and immediately did not see that Black Forest Cake I have been looking for. I felt disappointment. I asked the lady at the counter in my very harsh German accent "schwarzwald kuchen?", I think she knew what I was talking about. She offered this chocolate cake and I assumed that was all they had. We had a hard time communicatinf how many pieces I wanted. I told her "zwei stück" which means 2 pieces. She understood that, but there was two of the same cakes. She took a piece from each one. I think she thought I meant one from each cake. My German is not good ~ meine Deutsch ist keine gute.
It was a 10 minute drive to Lake Forgensee from the konditorei. We chose a spot to park near where the boats were docked. The lake is beautiful! It is very large, no doubt the biggest lake I have ever seen in my life. We took a nice family photo, one that I will use on the Christmas card in December. During our time here, we haven't taken really nice pictures. I have been so disappointed time after time, part of it is that the kids don't want to take family pictures. The other part is that we haven't dressed up for the occasions. I have been thoroughly disappointed all around. To compensate for this disappointment, I have Malia take pictures of me in front of whatever, at least that way I can reflect on the time I had in those places.
The walk to the boats took no more than 5 minutes. It was chilly today. Malia was wearing shorts. Michelle seemed happy we were at the lake. Jared was talking to me about a plane in WW2. I was preoccupied about taking a family picture. That was what had happened at the lake. I think Michelle would like to go back one day to camp here at Lake Forgensee.
Now was the long drive back to Otterberg. The gps said 4.5 hours. I drove the jeep as fast as I could. I was able to top out at 110 mph.
